A Quality Education Program for Blair County Families
 

The AASD Family Literacy Program recognizes parents as the first and most important teachers of their children. The Program targets both parent and child, but may involve other adult family members as well.

Our Mission

 The primary goal of the Altoona Area School District's Family Literacy Program is to provide literacy services that are of sufficient intensity and duration to make sustainable changes
in a family's life.

Goals of the Program

  • Helping parents become involved in their child's education
  • Assisting children to reach their full potential as learners
  • Providing literacy instruction and job training skills for parents

Who is eligible for Family Literacy?

  • Parents eligible for adult education programs
  • Children from birth to third grade and their parents
  • Families seeking parent-child learning activities
  • Adults interested in combining literacy with job-training skills

Outcomes

  • Achieve GED
  • Enter Post Secondary Education or Training
  • Enter Employment
  • Retain Employment
  • Improve Work Skills
  • Improve Basic Literacy Skills
